SARV

Sorcery Accusation-Related Violence (SARV) is a devastating crisis in Papua New Guinea, threatening lives and fracturing communities. Rooted in beliefs of ‘sanguma,’ or sorcery, historically used to explain misfortunes like illness, these superstitions have escalated into violent, fear-driven responses. As part of the PNG-Australia Government partnership, the Building Community Engagement Program (BCEP) engaged Tribe Agency to underscore the urgency of SARV at the Highlands Leaders’ Summit. The campaign raises awareness and educates, urging parliamentary leaders toward decisive action. By using a powerful visual narrative, it transforms complex content into a modular illustration suite that is both representative and inclusive. Raw, textured linework conveys urgency and gravity, evoking survivors’ harsh realities without relying on overly confrontational imagery. This ensures the message compels immediate action without alienating the audience. The campaign empowers communities with the knowledge and resources needed to confront SARV. Ending SARV starts with awareness, and this campaign is set to lead that crucial conversation.
